Día Internacional de la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer –
International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2008
One of the Escuela Futuro Verde Teachers, Ekaterina Barquero, is a licensed psycholigist and works in her spare time in a governmental comité against domestic violence. Even though the day is dedicated to violence against women, children always are the victims of any form of domestic violence.
Ekaterina trained our students and they held a conference at the Monteuzma Public Primary School about the different forms of domestic violence. The messages of how to react and where to call for help was transmitted “from kids to kids" and the young audience listened with high attention to their peers from another school. See pictures here.
Montezuma Film Festival 2008
During the annual Montezuma Film Festival in November, participants of the Film Festival came to Escuela Futuro Verde for one day to paint recycled tee-shirts and bags. Later, the Film Festival participants sold them, with all proceeds donated to Futuro Verde, in town to the visitors of the Montezuma Film Festival 2008. The result? Artsy fun for the kids and a highly appreciated donation for the school – muchas gracias, … See pictures here.
Halloween Party 2008
Many party-proven guests said “this has been the best party ever in Montezuma for Halloween”, which is quiet a compliment as the Montezuma crowd is famous for knowing how to party! There was beautiful decoration, entertaining games for kids, delicious food, and fun music led by DJ Ferdinando. He spun the right music mixture to lead the party from a fun family event into a fantastic good-mood evening along with the talents of the volunteer fire dancers, a fortune teller, and many helpful ghosts which made this a “jamming Halloween Party”, according to the “Tico Times”. In any case, it was great fun for around 200 small and big guests from the afternoon until late night. See pictures here.
Día de los Niños /Childrens Day 2008
On September 9, our kids celebrated “their” day with a fun excursion. All of them dressed up and went to Montezuma center for a little party. Adriana, one of the moms, made costumes for all of them over the course of the previous month, and the “Día de los Niños” was the opportunity to show them. Adriana, the teachers, and volunteers demonstrated their talent as visagiste doing the makeup, hairstyling and dress styling proved a nerve-thrilling hour before everyone was ready to leave for the “show”! See pictures here.
Manzanillo Sand Castle Competition 2008
A magnet for all area residents, Ticos and foreigners alike, the yearly Sand Castle Competition in Manzanillo, around 40 minutes north of Montezuma, is an entire weekend fiesta for young and old on the beach. On Sunday the main event is the famous Manzanillo Sandcastle Competition – a big fun for everyone! In 2008, a special sandcastle contest was organized for all the area schools. Escuela Futuro Verde students participated, of course, and won a prize with their large sandcastle Manta Ray. See pictures here.
