Why Cobano?
Cobano is in the center of the peninsula, the natural place for a school to serve the entire area.
Why a private school?
Often we are asked why we aim to set up a private school instead of supporting the public schools.
With all our respect and the acknowledgement that academic aspects might be satisfied by the Costa Rican school program, we would love to have our children a more ample view on the world with all its diversity, cultural differences and possibilities for their own future. Living in a paradise, we should not forget that we still have to prepare our children to make their own choice, if it is for them.
Also, the educational program of Costa Rican public schools do not really reflect modern pedagogic concepts, its strict program does not leave much room for the kids own curiosity and creativity, which is the key to self-relfected and critical thinking. It is not only about what they learn, but also how.
Nevertheless, the interaction with public schools, f.e. by offering additional programs (english, all kind of extra courses), shall be organized and financed by the foundation, it is one of the defined aims of the foundation.
