FOUNDATION

The aims of the foundation are to provide the structure and financial backing for a large educational project for the Southern tip of the Peninsula de Nicoya. For more info see the ESCUELA FUTURO VERDE Project Summary.

Foundations in Costa Rica are the safest legal entity for non-for-profit organizations, as their purpose cannot be changed by any means after the registration. Donations can only be used for the purpose defined in the Constitution.

Especially in the United States, foundations have earned a very negative image because of several frauds in the United States and in other Latin American countries. Thanks to the strict Costa Rican Foundation Law this is not possible here.

The foundation papers are nearly complete with the lawye. The document is currently under revision to ensure the purposes defined in the constitution protect and allow for tax-deductable donations from foreign countries. When the revision is complete we will upload the text to the website. Its registration in the National Register will be finished sometime in August 2008. From that moment on, the foundation will be an acknowledged institution in Costa Rica and can receive tax-deductable donations.
