The month of June arrives full of activities and events at Futuro Verde!

The Student Arts Festival (FEA) begins. This year’s theme is “For a Culture of Peace, say No to Bullying”.  In Futuro Verde we believe in seeing the glass half full and having a positive outlook, so we’ll be focusing on a “Culture of Peace”. We will work this theme intensively in art classes, in Peace Practices and in other areas of student life. You can also help by encouraging and working on these themes at home.

There are many categories in which your child can participate. Categories that are strictly governed by the theme of this year and others more flexible and open where all can participate and parents can also help!

Categories with theme

  • Performing arts: storytelling, monologue, parade, choral poetry, street theatre, children’s theatre, indoor theatre, puppets.
  • Literary arts: story, illustrated story, photo-story, short story, poetry, oral rhymes.
  • Visual arts: performance, audiovisual production, set-up, mural, drawing, manga, sculpture, photography, engraving, painting.

Free categories

  • Performing arts: dance and choreographies, conceptual choreo, Costa Rican folkloric dances, folkloric international.
  • Musical arts: cimarrona, ensemble or records, instrumental ensemble with materials of everyday use, marimba, vocal soloist popular song.
  • Visual arts: masquerade, indigenous masks, mascarade, body painting, fashion design, live sculptures.

In June we also have the highly anticipated Science Fair! Students have been working on their projects for several months. Each child has chosen the topic that interests them, has done research on the topic, has developed their knowledge and understanding and has become an expert on their topic. This is a new way to learn, by which students do not learn by memorizing facts that a week later they‘ll forget, but instead by doing their own self-guided research, they engage at a deeper level and internalize their subject matter by developing independent learning skills..

Parents can help in this learning process by showing interest in their student’s project, talking to their child and asking questions about what they’re learning and by buying the necessary presentation board. And, obviously, it’s always nice for children to have the presence of their parents during the all-school Science Fair project share, which will be held this year on June 21st.
