Charity Event: Earth Day

Charity Event: Earth Day

On April 23rd we will be hosting our Earth Day Charity event.

What´s this day about?

It´s about supporting an organization involved in local environmental protection and conservation, in an unusual and fun way. The challenge will be to raise money for a chosen organization both before and during the day of the event, with the participants spending the day up in a fig tree until they manage to collect $ 1,000 for their cause by reaching out to their connections through the internet and social media in order to promote the event. The participant(s) who reach the $ 1,000 goal before 2:30 pm on April 23rd, may come down from their tree. In addition, the first three participants will be able to donate the money raised to the organizations they chose to support. The rest of the funds raised will be used to invest in expanding Futuro Verde’s sports facilities. In 2017, we raised $ 6,093 and the beneficiary organizations were: Green Wave, ASOPROLAPA and Nicoya Peninsula Waterkeepers. The rest of the money was used to purchase 7 new computers for the multimedia center.

If you wish to participate, we invite you to investigate and find an organization that you would like to support next April 23rd, Earth Day. Don´t miss out on Earth Day!

Fundraising Activities in 2018

Fundraising Activities in 2018

This school year, 2018, is loaded with fundraising and development activities.

In order to extend and improve facilities, recreational spaces and opportunities for students and the educational community alike, we promote and support different initiatives throughout the year.

First up is a casino night on Saturday, March 17th, led by Richard Grimm, a parent of our educational community.

Our Earth Day charity challenge will be back on April 20th. We encourage students, parents and community members to identify an organization they wish to support and raise funds for.

The biggest upcoming event this year will be a fundraiser at the Core Club New York, United States, in the month of May. We have been working together with Myra Magaletta, founder and president of Indelible Impact. Myra is a global marketing and business development strategist, philanthropist and global citizen. Her main objective is to help different organizations around the world fulfill their mission and vision so as to create awareness in educational and environmental matters and achieve sustainable growth worldwide. Myra has been a great help and guide throughout this process in which our goal is to improve and create new spaces and more opportunities for all the people and students of the community. We hope that with her support we can continue to grow and invest more in the future of our educational community so that our geographic location no longer constitutes a limitation and turns out to be a greater benefit to all of us.

We will finish the year with our usual Green Sustainable Solutions Fair, where students are encouraged to create and reveal different solutions for the various environmental problems we face on a daily basis. We also encourage all community parents and members to display their products at the fair.

The funds raised in each activity will be invested in the following initiatives:

– Expansion of sports facilities: multipurpose court and space for Physical Education classes during the rainy season.

– Expansion and improvement of the library and multimedia room

– Environmental Education Projects

– Solar panels in Futuro Verde

We invite you to participate and follow the news about our initiatives in 2018.

Sustainable Solutions Fair

Sustainable Solutions Fair

The big day is almost here…the first annual Sustainable Solutions Fair hosted by Futuro Verde students on Saturday, December 2nd from 9am to 2pm! All of our students, grades pre-K through 11th, have been working very hard on developing innovative projects and they are ready to educate their families, friends, and community members on sustainable solutions to local issues.

Our school community will gather together on this day to share ideas about how we can protect our environment and lead a healthy life; making sustainability a part of our everyday lives with each action we take.

Over the last few months, the students have been asking questions, researching, interviewing, planning, discussing, designing, creating, building, improving, and developing their chosen topics based around one shared theme: sustainability.  The level of engagement and direct involvement the students have had with teachers, volunteers, parents, peers, specialists, and nature itself is impressive. The Sustainable Solutions Fair is definitely a joint project from start to finish. From little hands squishing recycled paper into water to large hands shoveling clay-ridden earth to mix with compost, it is evident that searching for sustainable solutions not only requires critical thinking, but hard work and a lot of grit!

The beauty of sustainability is that it can be applied to anything. It is all encompassing. From a small, local problem to a large, global issue shared amongst many, sustainable solutions are always a possibility. While many students have focused locally, their ideas can be applied globally.  From methods of organic pest control to plastic pollution, from over fishing to domestic animal overbreeding, from excess waste to red tide…our student projects truly embody the term “think globally, act locally.”

On this day, our children will be our teachers.  Get ready to be inspired!

Help Them Get Out of the Strangler Fig!

Help Them Get Out of the Strangler Fig!

Earth Day, fundraiser, environment,

As Earth Day approaches on April 22nd, Futuro Verde will hold a unique fundraiser to benefit both the environment and the completion of our multimedia center. Multiple Futuro Verde board members, parents and community supporters will choose an environmental charity of their choice and will then compete to see who raises $1,000 first. All participants will then climb into the strangler fig outside the art room on Futuro Verde’s campus on April 21st. As they enjoy the world from atop this majestic tree, they will also work hard to motivate further donations so that all participants reach their $1,000 goal. In order to get out of the strangler fig, each individual participant will have to make their $1,000 goal.

The money raised will then have a double benefit. The first participant to make their $1,000 goal will donate their money to the environmental charity they chose. The rest of the money raised will be used to purchase seven more computers for the school computer lab and to complete the equipping of our new school library!

Commit to the environment, support our new multimedia spaces and enjoy this fun Earth Day inspired event at FV!  For further information, complete event rules and guidelines on how to donate check the school website www.futuro-verde.org “Support FV” menu. Stay connected on FV’s social media channels for regular updates throughout the event!

There is strength in numbers!

There is strength in numbers!

In Futuro Verde we are always looking for new ways to attract donations to support our growing student population while minimizing the impact on our community’s finances. The Barba Challenge, for example, received a large percentage of donations from people outside of our community. We also are constantly looking for other institutions that are willing to support us through the donations of necessary material donations like the donation from Copernicus in the previous years, the Microscopes brought to us by Hautlieu School in Jersey, United Kingdom that visited us this October, and the educational materials donated by the International School de Nido de Aguilas in Santiago, Chile that are currently in route.

Another easy way that we can all give, are the three services AmazonSmile, Giving Assistant and We-Care.com. Through AmazonSmiles you can make your normal Amazon purchases with the difference that a percentage of the purchase will go to our school. This has no negative impact on the shopper. Giving Assistant and We-Care.com work slightly different. Once inside the websites you will find coupons that you can use to purchase things from a variety of companies. Again a percentage of the proceeds will go to Futuro Verde.

To use any of these you must go to the following website: http://www.futuro-verde.org/get-involved/give-now/ At the end of the page you will find a link to each of the three services. It is important that you always enter through these links as they are associated to our institution. They do not change so you can bookmark them for future use.

Please share this with whomever you know! The percentages are small but if we get a lot of people to consistently use them, the impact could be huge. Remember there is strength in numbers!

On December 3rd  Futuro Verde will be hosting its first Christmas Bazaar. With this new yearly iniciative, Futuro Verde hopes to support both small Costa Rican producers and our student community.

The raised funds will be used to fulfill educational and administrative needs such as science materials, laptops for our teachers, educational games for primary, social studies maps and globes, dictionaries, and musical instruments for our school band.

It will be an afternoon full of music, art, prizes, gastronomical delights, and national products. Don´t miss it! Support national producers and Educational Center Futuro Verde.
